How to Straighten Teeth Without Braces ?

How to Straighten Teeth Without Braces ?

It is possible to straighten teeth without braces for some people. Traditional braces may be the only option in case of severely crooked or misaligned teeth. Modern dentistry allows us to have straight teeth even without wearing metal braces in some cases. Depending on the severity of the misalignment, your dentist may be able to provide you with an ideal solution to fix the misaligned teeth depending on the results that you’re looking for. While metal braces are the ideal way to straighten teeth, here are a few other ways how to straighten teeth without braces.

Dental Aligners

Made up of thermoplastic material, dental aligners feel like a thinner version of the mouthguard. These aligners apply pressure to the specific teeth for them to move in the desired position. Dental aligners are also generally easy to move your teeth with and the clear dental aligners will go unnoticed and there won’t be specific dietary restrictions. These aligners may also help promote better oral hygiene as opposed to braces. You will be able to take these out and clean and floss your teeth.

Veneers

Dental veneers are thin coverings that cover either a partial or whole tooth and are usually made from porcelain or composite resin. Veneers are used by dentists to treat discolored, misaligned, or even chipped teeth as these are durable and stain resistant. In case of minor teeth misalignment, Veneers are an ideal choice to construct the appearance of straighter teeth without using braces. However, please note that Veneers are semi-permanent as your dentist will have to rub away some of the enamel from the surface of the teeth to fix Veneers and these will need to be replaced every 5-10 years.

Retainers

Dental retainers are tailor-made mouth gears to help keep your teeth aligned and usually maintain straight teeth post braces. Although often you receive retainers after getting your braces done, for those who only need minor adjustments to be made, using a retainer even without putting the braces on can help straighten the teeth. Retainers are often removable and less noticeable than traditional braces.

Dental Bonding

Dental Bonding involves filling the gaps with resins between the teeth that need to be straightened. The resin is matched with the color of the teeth so it is unnoticeable. It helps adjust the shape of the teeth by enveloping minor cracks between the teeth. As with retainers, dental bonding does not require your enamel to be rubbed off. However, a touch-up may be needed to maintain the bonding after every ten years.

These were just a few options to straighten teeth without braces. However, in the case of a more complex case, traditional braces may be the best fit. Your dentist may be able to recommend options that are clear or less visible like ceramic braces or lingual braces that are fixed behind your teeth so they are not noticeable. Due to the extent of force exerted by metal braces, they may be the ideal option to go for in some cases.

Whether it is the traditional metal braces or invisible alternatives, appearance is not always that is important. For crooked or misaligned teeth, brushing or flossing may not be as easy as usual which increases the chances of tooth decay. For the whole orthodontic treatment to be successful, it is important to maintain good oral hygiene with regular brushing and water flossing.
